今回は英語と関係ない話です。日々、いかがお過ごしでしょうか。私は少し大きな仕事を終え、今年はひと段落です。カフェインレスの紅茶を淹れて、一息つきながら記事を書きます。私は高校で英語を教えています。生徒は大切にしないといけないと思います。看護系のクラスで授業をした後、ふと思ったことがあります。こんな時代に、看護師になろうと思う１０代がいる。本当に尊いことではないでしょうか。政治の裏金問題や何もかも自己責任の風潮自分のことだけ考えて、自分さえよければいいのだという人が活躍する時代です。犯罪を犯せばドバイに逃亡し、そこで暮らしている人もいます。こうした時代にあってもなお、医療の世界に行こうとしている若者がいる。頭が下がります。仕事は厳しいと言われます。ところが、仕事は厳しいものなのだと言って、今の時代を作っている人たちは、若者に希望溢れる社会を見せているでしょうか。仕事は厳しいものだ！と言い続けているのに、日本社会はどんどん衰退しているではないですか。そして自分のことしか考えずに、怪しいビジネスをしている人もいる。そんな社会を作った大人たちが、今の10代に顔向けできるのでしょうか。英語の説明をしっかり聞いてくれている生徒を見て、ありがたいなと思います。私が教えている側なのに、何倍も彼らから教えられることの方が多いように思います。もっともっと10代の若者を大切にすべきだと思います。そして優しくすべきだと思うのです。優しさを与えてこそ、彼らも人に優しくすることを学ぶでしょう。小学校に目を向ければどうでしょうか。子供たちに給食を満足に提供できていない自治体が一部あるようです。何をしているの
