full-scale vegetable production
One of Japan's largest Wagyu cattle breeding companies has started full-scale vegetable production in Shiraoi town where they have a ranch.
They have been growing peppers and other vegetables since this spring and shipping them out of Hokkaido.
He says, "I want to contribute to the promotion of agriculture in Shiraoi" by growing leafy vegetables throughout the year, even in winter.
The company's vegetable production base is a seven-hectare farm.
This spring, in addition to peppers, the company started to produce Italian parsley, basil, and other herbs.
Their mainstay peppers are shipped to supermarkets in Hokkaido and the Tokyo metropolitan area through a specialized supplier.
