In Buddhism, there's an expression: "the mind is like a wild horse and a restless monkey" (意馬心猿).
It means that our minds are hard to control—like a wild horse that’s difficult to ride. If we’re not careful, we can easily be thrown off.
Our thoughts jump around just like a monkey swinging quickly from branch to branch. One moment we’re thinking about one thing, and the next, our mind is already somewhere else.
