The Buddhist philosopher Nagarjuna (ca. 150–250) expressed the reality of human goodness this way: 'Even if you pour two or three jugs of boiling water on a frozen pond four miles around, the next day, the ice there will swell up.' In other words, boiling water may have the power to melt ice, but overnight it too will freeze. In the same way, human goodness is overwhelmed by our overriding capacity for evil. Buddhism teaches that we are all beings deeply stained with evil and inflamed with passions. Yet despite this inherent nature, Buddhism offers a path to true happiness while you are still ablaze with passions. #Buddhism #goodness #Nagarjuna #mind
