皆さんは映画を見る際に字幕と吹き替えどちらで観ますでしょうか？私自身は字幕を好んでみますが、吹き替えにもメリットがあると考えています。今回は字幕と吹き替えの個人的なメリット/デメリットをお話しします。
字幕
字幕のメリットは英語音声をそのまま聞けることにあります。吹き替えではどうしてもある違和感がないのがメリットですが、どうしても字幕に集中する必要があるのがデメリットです。また、字幕の表示時間は１秒４文字が基準とされています。そのためおしゃれな言い回しや細かい部分が埋もれてしまう傾向があります。要するに、どれだけ引き算がうまくできるかで字幕の質が決まります。
吹き替え
吹き替えの一番のメリットは字幕に集中する必要がなく、視線を下にずらす必要がないことだと考えています。元の音声も吹き替えで消されているため、多少意訳や翻訳してる言語に寄り添った訳をすることができます。しかし、アニメ系統の映画以外は実際の人間の声を別の人間の声で補っているため、どうしても違和感が残ります。
ここで上げたもの以外でも、字幕と吹き替えの強みと弱みはまだまだ存在します。日本の映画業界で素晴らしいのは、基本的に観客が字幕版か吹き替え版、どちらを見るかを選べることです。国によってはどちらかに偏っています。両方のバージョンを楽しめることに感謝をしながら映画を楽しみたいものです。

Do you prefer to watch movies subtitled or dubbed? I prefer watching movies with subtitles, but I believe that dubbing has its advantages as well. Today, I would like to talk about the merits and demerits of
subtitling and dubbing from my perspective.
Subtitles
The advantage of subtitles is that you can listen to the English voices.
Dubbing usually has this sort of uncomfortableness to it, so getting rid of that is certainly an advantage, but the disadvantage is that you
inevitably need to concentrate on the subtitles. In addition, the
standard display time for subtitles is 4 characters per second.
Therefore, fashionable phrases and details tend to be disregarded. In
short, the quality of subtitles is determined by how well they can be
subtracted.
Dubbing
I believe the biggest advantage of dubbing is that you don't have to
focus on the subtitles, and you don't have to shift your gaze
downwards. Since the original voice is also muffled in dubbing, it is
possible to make a translation that is a little more intentional or closer
to the language you are translating into. However, in the case of movies other than those in the animation genre, the actual human voice is
supplemented by another human voice, which inevitably leaves a sense of discomfort.
In addition to those mentioned above, there are still other strengths
and weaknesses of subtitling and dubbing. One of the great things
about the Japanese film industry is that audiences can choose whether to watch subtitled or dubbed films. In some countries, it usually leads
toward one another. We should enjoy movies appreciating the fact that we can enjoy both versions.
