It's a waster of time. I don't have time for it. The inspiration comes to you when you are relaxed.

Dialogue between a Japanese tourist visiting the Gold Coast in Australia and a shoe store salesperson

Diana Tennant (DT):
Welcome to the Ugg Gold Coast shop.
My name is Diana Tennant.
How can I help you?

Hiroshi Arakawa (HA):
Good afternoon.
I’m Hiroshi Arakawa and this is my wife, Emiko.
We are honeymooning here and want to buy some Ugg boots for the Japanese winter.

DT:
Do you both want to buy Ugg footwear?
If so, please tell me what size footwear the two of you wear in Japan and I’ll work out the required size on this conversion table.

HA:
Yes, we both want to buy footwear, please.
My size is normally 26 in Japan and Emiko’s is 23.5.

DT:
They are respectively seven and a half and five in our sizes.
What style of Ugg footwear are you looking for?

HA:
Emiko is interested in purchasing a pair of Classic Tall Ugg boots.
I’d like to try a pair of Deluxe Ugg boots.

DT:
Understood.
Let’s sort out Emiko-san’s boots first.
They come in four colors, namely black, chocolate, chestnut and grey.
What color would she like?

HA:
She would like to try on and compare the chocolate and chestnut boots, please.

DT:
Certainly.
Here they are.
What do the two of you think?

HA:
I personally like the chestnut color but Emiko is interested in the chocolate boots, too.
She thinks the boots are a bit loose.
Can we try the next size down, please?

DT:
These boots are actually quite a loose fit.
Here’s a size four and a half to try.

HA:
Thank you.
Can Emiko please have a pair of four and a half chestnut boots, please?

DT:
Certainly.
What about you, Hiroshi-san?

HA:
I’d like to try size seven and a half boots, please.
What colors do you have?

DT:
There are only two colors, namely chocolate and chestnut.
Which would you prefer?

HA:
The chestnut, please.
Can I also please try a pair of size seven boots?

DT:
As with Emiko-san, the smaller size might be a better fit for you.
Here you are.

HA:
Thank you.
Yes, the size seven is better.
Can I have a pair of chestnut boots, please?

DT:
Here you are.
Emiko-san’s boots cost A$219 and yours A$169, making A$388 in total.
How would you like to pay?

HA:
If possible, we’d like to pay by JCB card.
Is that possible?

DT:
Yes, we have a lot of Japanese customers and many use JCB.

HA:
Great.
Here is my card.
Thank you for your kind assistance.

DT:
You are very welcome.
Thank you for visiting our shop and buying our quality goods.

HA:
We were happy to do so.
Thanks again, and good-bye.

to work out - to calculate
to look for - to search for
to sort out - to solve
to try on - to put on to see if...

My size is normally 26 in Japan and Emiko’s is 23.5.

mai saiziz normally twenti sixin JapanandEmiko'ziz twenti three randa half.
