たまには英語で書こうかな The saddest thing in my learning history

Long time ago, I had an American teacher who lived in Bali, Indonesia.
He was one of the greatest teachers I had ever met.
His teaching career was for decades, and he had been moving to many countries, Portugal, Colombia, Indonesia and so on, to teach people.

He had a lot of teaching materials which he had made by himself for
his students. The list was huge. So, I tended to choose one of them
and we had talked about the topic that I chose once a week for about
2 years. As time passed, we started talking like friends do.

He also had a massive collection of photos, which was his family and
his trips and so on. He even showed me his ex-wife's photo. He was
around 70 years old at the time, so he told me about many events that he experienced when he was young. They were stories about when he went to Disneyland, or when the Beatles came to the U.S. etc.

His father seemed to be good at making things, so I saw a photo of a
boat that his father made when he was a little kid. The photo of the
boat was published in a local newspaper then.

When I chose drawings as the topic, we saw a picture which was a boy standing by a train. That reminded him of the time when he was
leaving home to learn at an university.

What the saddest thing I'm going to tell you was that he had to leave me and quit his favorite job because of cancer.
That was really shocking. He had done a great job, but little by little,
he had been deteriorated. He was a reliable person and never be late.
However, one day, he didn't show up saying nothing. So, I asked
to him what happened, and the answer made me really devastated.

He said he was no longer teaching people and "The cancer is winning."

I can't write everything that we've talked together on one page,
because there are a lot of conversations that we've enjoyed together.

I think you can imagine how hard to accept when someone, who you
have been talking once a week for one hour every week for 2 years as
your friend, says he is going to leave you because the cancer is
winning.

I would never be able to forget him.

Thanks for reading.
