冬休みは如何でしたでしょうか。
少しお休みになれましたか。
私は意識が朦朧としておりますが、息子は今日も絶好調です。年末年始はマンション中をcrawlingしてくれ、ルンバも顔負けの活躍でした。
ヨーロッパの教育機関や企業も今日から本格始動です。1年というマラソンは長いようであっという間です。個人的には2024年も仕事とプライベート共に大きな変革の年になります。昨年以上に時間は限られてくるので、スピード感を持って一つ一つの挑戦をクリアしていきたいと思います。
語学学習においては、AIを中心としたテクノロジーの活用による生産性の向上、効率化が鍵になります。
先ずは、以下をご紹介させて下さい。
1. マイクロソフトのサーチエンジンBing上でCHATGPT4が無料で使えます。
2. Googleドキュメントの音声入力は発音矯正に活用出来ます。
3. 会話専用のAIのPiは、アウトプットの練習になります。
AIを生かすも殺すもユーザーの創造力とprompt(質問や要望の文脈と構成)次第です。自転車は毎日跨っていれば自然と乗れるようになるものです。兎に角沢山いじって、自分なりの活用方法を見出しましょう :)
それでは、本日もダイアローグと文法・発音ポイントに参ります。第二十一弾です。(ご自由に教材としてお使い下さい。)
Dialogue between a Japanese tourist visiting the British Museum in London and a museum staff member

A very warm welcome to the British Museum.
My name is Janice Edwards.
How can I help you?
Yoshiko Koyama (YK):
Good morning.
I’m Yoshiko Koyama and this is my mother, Hideko.
We would like to buy tickets for the museum.
How much are they?
JE:
They are 18 pounds for a 1-day visit.
For the two of you, that will be 36 pounds.
YK:
We actually have that amount in cash – here you are.
What would you recommend we see first?
JE:
I’d recommend you start with the Egyptian artefacts on the ground floor.
We have an extensive collection, many of which are several thousand years old.
The Rosetta Stone and the mummies are real features of our focus on ancient Egyptian civilisation.
YK:
We’ll definitely start there.
What else would you recommend?
JE:
Another of our most popular exhibits is the Greek and Roman section, which has a wide range of historical artefacts, all of which are well in excess of one thousand years old.
The Elgin Marbles are a must-see item in that section.
YK:
I read about them at university and can’t wait to see them in person.

Another section which might be of interest to you is the Japanese Gallery on the Museum’s upper floor.
It has some truly remarkable exhibits from olden-time Japan.
YK:
We plan to spend the day here, so will ensure we visit all three sections you suggested.
What time does the museum close and can we get lunch within the museum?
JE:
The museum closes at 5 p.m. today.
This may surprise you but we have quite a range of eating options within the museum.
They include our up-market Great Court Restaurant, a Pizzeria, and two Court Cafes serving sandwiches, salads and beverages.
YK:
That sounds great.
I’m sure we’ll want to break at least a couple of times for some light food and drinks.
Are the restaurants and cafes easy to find?
JE:
Everything within the museum is very clearly signposted to assist visitors.
I’ve also highlighted with a green marker in this museum guide the three sections I recommended earlier.

That is very kind of you and will be most helpful as we move around the museum.
JE:
If you are going to spend the full day here, you may be able to visit more than the three areas I proposed earlier.

Alternatively, any of our other museum personnel will gladly provide you with suggestions on other interesting exhibits to visit.
文法ポイント:
関係代名詞のwhichが4度登場しています。関係代名詞は主格と目的格の2通り存在し、今回のダイアローグでは全て主格で用いられています。
以下、例文です。
主格
I have a car which is popular amongst youngsters.
目的格
I have a car which I bought last year.
どちらの例文でも直前の名詞を修飾しています。(直前の名詞を先行詞として扱っています。)
関係代名詞のwhichには実はもう一つ便利な機能が備わっており、文を区切らずに前述した文脈全体を修飾する事(先行詞として扱う事)が出来ます。

I have to work over time again tomorrow, which is definitely too much.
2.
I do him a favour, which he never appreciates.
この使い方でも、上記の様に主格と目的格の2通りで用いる事が可能です。1は主格、2は目的格です :)
発音ポイント:
英単語の90%は子音で終わります。次の単語が母音で始まる場合は、リンキングのチャンスです :)
