11月も中旬を過ぎました。今年は定年以上に忘年会の予定を組んいる方々が多い印象です。Post COVIDを感じさせる現象ですね。
先日、満7ヶ月を迎えた巨大児のために乳母車を購入しました :)
赤ちゃん本舗のスタッフの方々に大感謝です。
このトピックにいざ向き合ってみると、そのproduct lineの豊富さに驚かされます。しかし、詳しくお話を伺ってみると、要は3択でした。
push chair (移動する椅子) か、prom (移動する寝床)か、compatible (どちらにもなる)です。(今は、promを選択する方々少ない様です。）
主要なMakerは、ドイツのCybexか、日本のApricaか、日本のCombiです。私達は最終的にApricaのcompatibleにしました。
乳母車って便利なんですね笑
もっと早く購入すれば良かったです!

1. An on-line dialogue
Japanese local (L):
Hello.
I’m Mika Tsunoda from Niigata in Japan.
Foreigner (F):
Hi, there.
I’m Jane Robson from Glasgow in Scotland.
L:
Hello, Jane.
Nice to on-line meet you.
I’m very pleased to talk to somebody from Scotland, as I understand your country is very beautiful.
I also want to find out about bagpipes.
F:
Yes, we have a lot of greenery, mountains, lakes and, of course, the sea.
Bagpipe music is definitely unique!
I am interested in Japan, especially manga and anime.
L:
Let’s hope we can meet when we visit each other’s country.
F:

2. International Air Terminal Representative and Transiting Passenger dialogue

Can you please tell me whether there are any coffee shops within this airport which have free wi-fi and charging points for mobiles and computers.

We here at Kuala Lumpur’s international airport pride ourselves on what our airport offers.
There are three coffee shops in this terminal providing the service you require.

DT:

Incidentally, my flight to Brisbane leaves from gate 64 – which of the three coffee shops is closest to that?
LT:
That is this coffee shop here.
I’ve put a second circle around it.
As you will see, it is only 100 meters or so from your departure gate.

3. Dialogue between a ticket office representative and a Japanese tourist
Yujiro Murauama (YM):
Hello, my wife Rie and I arrived last night from Sendai in Japan and would like to see a show on Broadway.
Please tell us what is available.
Dani Schwartz (DS):
There are many options.
Some of the most popular are The Lion King, Funny Girl, A Beautiful Noise (the Neil Diamond Story), Aladdin and Chicago.
YM:
We both love Neil Diamond’s music and would love to see A Beautiful Noise.
When are tickets available?
DS:
Tonight and tomorrow are full booked but there are a few tickets available the next day.
YM:
We would like two, please.
DS:
Certainly.
That will be $150, please.
文法ポイント:
英語はregister (文脈・媒体・第二人称)を問わず、常に主語と動詞を用いて文を構成し会話します。
それに対して、日本語は主語や動詞を抜いて、単語 (キーワード)だけで会話のキャッチボールを行います。
How's the weather today?
英語スピーカーの返答は、It is sunny. という描写であり、ホップ・ステップ・ジャンプ! のリズムです。
日本語スピーカーの返答は、Sunny というヒントのみで、いきなりジャンプ! がきます。
英語スピーカーは、この予想外のリズムに対応出来ない事が殆どで、聞き逃し、Sorry? と聞き返さなければなりません。
発音ポイント:
Can I have two tickets to Paris?
twoとtoはどちらも/tuː/です。
しかし、実際の会話では、toは/tʊ/や/tu/の様に、もっと弱く、短く、あっさりと抽象的に発音され、時には/tə/にも聞こえます。
