Dialogue between Singapore Airlines ground attendant Lena Jo (LJ) and transiting passenger Misuzu Tano (MT) of Japan
LJ:
Welcome to Changi International Airport and Singapore.
I’m Lorna Jo of Singapore Airlines.
How may I help you?
MT:
Good afternoon.
My name is Misuzu Tano.
I’ve just arrived on SQ637 from Haneda and want to connect to SQ297 to Christchurch in New Zealand.
LJ:
That flight doesn’t leave until 8 p.m., so you have about six hours until 7.15 p.m., which is when you need to be at gate 93 prior to boarding your flight.
What do you plan to do in the meantime?
MT:
That is what I wanted to talk to you about.
First of all, can you please tell me where gate 93 is.
LJ:
Of course.
It’s about 10 minutes’ walk from here.
Please go down that corridor over there to the right and turn left at the second corner where the Dior duty-free store is located.
Gate 93 is about 350 metres from there on the right.
MT:
Thank you.
That’s very helpful.
Are there any locations where I can set myself up with my computer, wi-fi access and a coffee?
LJ:
There are quite a number of computer work-space areas within Changi – they are shown on this map here with a computer symbol.
Most have coffee stands nearby.
Changi has free wi-fi throughout the terminal.
MT:
Thank you again.
About 5 p.m., I’d like to have a light meal.
Are there any good-quality cafes near gate 93?
LJ:
There are many cafes and restaurants scattered throughout Changi and their quality is good.
Cafes are shown on the map by the LM symbol and restaurants by a knife and fork.
There are several quite close to gate 93.
MT:
Thank you.
I have one further question, which relates to showers.
Between my light meal and going to gate 93, I’d like to have a shower and change my clothes.
Where can I do that?
LJ:
There are three pay shower areas within Changi.
This one here on the map is closest to gate 93.
MT:
Thank you.
Can you tell me, please, what the cost is and whether towels, soap and shampoo are provided.
LJ:
Yes, those items are included in the price, which is US$10 for 30 minutes.
MT:
Thank you for all your advice, which will enhance my time here.
