出世する

get promoted とかがまず浮かんできそうですが、 move up in the world という表現もあります。

使い方は以下のような感じです。

In the past, the harder we worked, the more we moved up in the world. However, this does not apply to the modern society. 

（昔は働けば働くほど出世したが、現代社会にこれは当てはまらない。）

昔に比べて出世できなくても、働きやすくなっているので、現代の方が自分は好きです。
