news。

among the young. It is a pity, however, that we (should) often hear sad reports about climbing accidents (あるいはIt is deplorable, however,

４、途中でクルマがパンクした。さらに悪いことに、突如大雨がやって来た。

９、この１ヵ年、夢中になって努力を続けたのに、かわいそうに彼は目指す大学の入学試験にまた受からなかった。
（ヒント）「目指す大学」＝the university he was aiming at。
（解答例）Though he has been working very hard in (あるいはfor) the
past year, he has failed the entrance exam of the university he was
aiming at again. Poor guy!
10、ドイツが東西に分裂されていた事実を考えてみると、我々日本人が一つの統一国家に住めるということは幸福と言うべきであろう。
（ヒント）「～という事実を考えてみると」＝in view of the fact that～、「～に分割されている」＝be divided into two parts、「統一国家」＝an
undivided country。
（解答例）In view of the fact that Germany was divided into two parts: West and East, we might say that it is fortunate that we allowed to live in an undivided country (あるいはlive under a single government).

（解説）話題や気分を変えたり、注意を促したりする時の「さて」は、副詞
