今年も残すところ約一週間となりました。いかがお過ごしですか。
私は白目を剥きつつも何とか順調に役割をこなしております。
家族のクリスマスパーティーは、成長著しい甥達のためにサンタのコスチュームを本格的な物に買い替え、何とか難を逃れました。私はサンタの時は英語しか話さないので、あの感じだともう一二年いけるかもしれません笑
よく考えてみれば、年末年始なんて人間が勝手に決めたアイデアで、自然界は何も変わらないんですよね、、、。本物のアマゾンでは急に獲物がお求め易くなったりしませんし、、、。
8ヶ月の息子はcrawling forwardが始まりました。今もbaby walkerに乗って廊下を行ったり来たりしながら、babblingを繰り返しています。これからますます油断も隙もありません。
PhonicsのPhase 1の7つの全ての動画を見てみました。個人的には、Rhythm and rhymeとAlliterationが興味深かったです。語彙力もつけられます。
最も興味深かったのは、最後のOral blending(合成) and segmenting(分解)です。早くも、子音プラス母音プラス子音という英語の1音節の構成に触れます。語彙を子音と母音に分解し、各子音と母音の正確な発音を別々に確認し、合成し、発音します。これは大人にも良い発音矯正になります。
続くPhase 2では、最初の19個のフォニックスが導入されます :)

Can I get you some drinks to start with?
TM:
In addition to iced water, we’d like to share a bottle of high-quality New Zealand white wine, either chardonnay or sauvignon blanc.
What would you recommend?
EC:
We have a number of different brands of both varieties.
Our best-selling item, though, is Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc.
It’s from the Marlborough area.
TM:
We’d like a bottle of that, please.
How about food – what would you recommend?
We’d both like to have an entrée, a main and a dessert followed by coffee.
EC:

Now, as for your food, we have quite a number of entrees but two of our most popular are pan seared prawns with coconut cream salad and steamed mussels with bacon and Swiss chard.
TM:
They both sound great.
Can we have one of each, please?
EC:
Of course.
As for mains, as you will see, our options are dishes featuring one of beef, pork, venison, lamb or fish, as well as two vegetarian choices.
TM:
We’ve heard a lot about delicious New Zealand lamb and, in addition, have never tried venison.
Can we have one each of your lamb and venison main dishes, please?
EC:
Certainly.
Both dishes are highly rated by our customers and I’m sure you’ll enjoy them.
What about desserts and coffees?
They are shown on this page in the menu.
TM:
They all look really delicious.
I love brulee, so would like your lemon and almond brulee with citrus sherbert.
Miyuki would like the chocolate fudge brownie, please.
EC:
Great choices.
What coffees would you like?
TM:
Miyuki likes milky coffees and has already enjoyed some flat whites since we arrived in New Zealand.
She would like one of those and can I please have a double espresso?
EC:
Of course.
Would you like those served with your desserts or after?
TM:
Please serve our desserts and coffees together. . . . at the end of the meal . . .
TM:
That was all delicious, thank you.

法助動詞のみを太字にしてみました。法助動詞は大きく3つのタイプに分類されます。
認識的法助動詞（epistemic modal）は、事態の真実性に関する話し手の主観的な判断を表します。
義務的法助動詞（deontic modal）は、話し手が相手に許可を与えたり，義務を課していることを主観的に表します。
動的法助動詞（dynamic modal）は、主語を叙述する物で、客観的な「可能性」や「義務」を表し、話し手の主観性はほとんど含まれません。
今回登場した法助動詞はどれに当てはまるでしょうか :)
発音ポイント:
canの発音を確認しましょう。
canは高速で話す場合、「きゃん」ではなく、「けん」と発音されます。
I can play tennis.
疑問文でも同様です。
Can you play tennis?
しかし、can'tは常に「キャント」です。
I can't play tennis.
Can't you play tennis?
イギリスでは、can'tは「かーんと」と発音されます。
伸ばさないと違う単語(卑猥な意味)になるので注意が必要です。
