スペルは簡単ですが、意味は曖昧な方が多いのではないかと思います。

subdueは「抑制する・鎮圧する」という動詞で、英検準1級の単語問題で見かけます。

ライティングでは次のように prevent や decrease の代わりのようなニュアンスで使えるでしょう。

The government should implement strict measures to subdue the rising crime rates in the city.
