The Tomakomai Fishery Cooperative Association is working on new measures to deal with the slump in the trading price of surf clams due to the new coronavirus.
They are taking advantage of the government's emergency support program for the preservation of resources and fishing grounds, which was started as an anti-corona measure.
From the end of September, set aside a day off fishing to promote price recovery while working hard to release the transplants.
The official said, "We want to protect Japan's largest surf clam fishery," he said with emphasis.
The project was established to help the fishermen suffering from low fish prices due to the corona disaster.
Under this system, if the fishing grounds are protected while the fishery is closed, a grant is given according to the content of the project.
By reducing the volume of fish shipments during the suspension of fishing, the government is trying to restore the balance between supply and demand and restore prices.
In other words, it is an effort to increase the stock of surf clams, which boasts the largest landings in Japan, by using a government-supported program to cover the income of the fishermen.
