On August 10, 27 vessels landed the first 510 tons of this season's saury fishery off the east coast of Hokkaido at Hanasaki Port.
This season's sanctioned saury fishery by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries had been landing in the 100-ton range even in the peak fishing season.
On the 10th, in addition to 508 tonnes in bulk, 1264 cases of styrofoam cases and 15 cases of frozen blocks were landed.
In the first auction held at 7:00 a.m., the highest price for saury in bulk was ¥724 per kilo, and the largest size (150 grams) in styrofoam was priced at ¥1,566 per kilo.
A man who landed 20 tons of saury said, "We landed within Russia's 200-kaili waters. It's the best fishery we've had this year and the size of the fish isn't bad either. I don't know if it will last forever, but I'm looking forward to future fisheries.
