「道徳的に正しい・正義の」という意味の形容詞です。

rightとの違いですが、righteousの方がより重く、道徳的・倫理的に正しい・正義といったニュアンスを持ちます。

A righteous education system should provide equal opportunities for students regardless of their economic or social background.

正しい教育制度は、経済的または社会的背景に関係なく、生徒に平等な機会を提供すべきである。

A righteous society cannot exist unless people respect one another and take responsibility for protecting human rights and individual freedom.

人々がお互いを尊重し、人権と個人の自由を守る責任を果たさなければ、正義ある社会は存在できない。
