I am responsible for reviewing and evaluating AI-generated Japanese text, a role that requires not only linguistic accuracy but also a deep sensitivity to nuance, cultural context, and natural language flow. My work involves examining machine-generated sentences and passages line by line, identifying subtle errors, awkward phrasings, or inconsistencies that may not be immediately apparent. I look for issues related to grammar, vocabulary choice, tone, and coherence, but I also pay close attention to the broader context—whether the text is appropriate for the intended audience, whether the flow feels natural, and whether the overall message is conveyed clearly and effectively. Through this detailed process, I contribute directly to improving the model’s ability to understand and generate high-quality Japanese. Working in this field has greatly deepened my appreciation for the complexity of the Japanese language. Unlike some languages where clarity often comes from structure alone, Japanese relies heavily on context, subtlety, and an intuitive sense of what feels “right” or natural. Honorifics, levels of formality, cultural references, and emotional undertones all play important roles in shaping meaning. AI models can often produce grammatically correct sentences, but they may miss the emotional nuance or cultural background that makes Japanese communication feel authentic. My job is to bridge this gap—to help the model learn how humans actually speak, write, and express themselves. This requires not just analytical skill but also creativity and empathy. In addition to evaluating the text itself, I must consider the intent behind it. For example, a customer-facing explanation requires clarity and politeness, while a more casual conversation may benefit from looser phrasing or colloquial expressions. Sometimes, an AI-generated sentence can be technically correct yet still feel “off”—too stiff, too vague, or simply unnatural. Identifying these differences and articulating why they matter is an important part of my role. By providing clear and specific feedback, I help refine the model’s understanding of what constitutes high-quality Japanese across different contexts. Recently, I advanced from the position of Attempter to Reviewer, a step that reflects both my growing expertise and the trust placed in my judgment. This new role has expanded the scope of my responsibilities significantly. As a Reviewer, I assess the work of newer team members, ensuring that their evaluations are accurate, consistent, and aligned with our quality standards. I review the suggestions they submit, provide constructive comments, and highlight areas for improvement. This requires not only subject-matter knowledge but also the ability to communicate feedback in a way that is clear, respectful, and helpful. Becoming a Reviewer has also given me the opportunity to play a role in training and onboarding new team members. I now help guide others through the evaluation process, offering advice on how to analyze AI-generated text, how to identify subtle issues, and how to apply our guidelines effectively. Teaching others has pushed me to refine my own understanding of the tasks and to articulate the reasoning behind my decisions more clearly. It has also reinforced the importance of maintaining consistency and fairness, especially when multiple evaluators are involved. The quality of the model depends not just on individual skill but on collective alignment, and I take that responsibility seriously. Working at the intersection of linguistics and AI has been both challenging and rewarding. The field is constantly evolving, and AI models continue to grow in capability at an astonishing pace. This means that our standards must also evolve. What was considered acceptable a few months ago may now be outdated. New tasks and evaluation criteria are introduced regularly, requiring ongoing adaptation. In this dynamic environment, I strive to stay informed, flexible, and proactive. I view every evaluation as an opportunity not only to improve the model but also to deepen my own understanding of language and communication. One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is seeing the tangible impact of our efforts. When the model becomes noticeably better at producing natural, accurate Japanese, I can see the direct result of countless evaluations, corrections, and refinements. Knowing that my attention to detail contributes to better user experiences—whether by enabling clearer explanations, more natural dialogue, or more accurate translations—gives me a strong sense of purpose. AI is becoming an increasingly integrated part of daily life, and ensuring that its language abilities are reliable and human-friendly is essential.
