The Japanese government decided on November 13 that it will create a "digital agency" in September next year to centralize the digitalization of administrative services.

The government is also considering establishing an organization under the direct control of the prime minister.

The number of employees will be limited to about 500, of which 100 to 150 will be hired from the private sector.

The government will include the outline of such an organization in its basic policy for digital policy, which will be compiled at the end of the year.

The 500-person organization is larger than the Consumer Affairs Agency and the Reconstruction Agency.

In order to oversee the efforts of each ministry and agency, related budgets will be centrally managed and the cost of procuring and maintaining the government's entire information system will be handled in a centralized manner.

The Digital Agency is intended to be a permanent organization, but there will also be provisions for reviewing the structure after a certain period of time has passed since its creation.

This is because it needs to be reconsidered in line with advances in digital technology.
