I work as an English Teacher and English Leader at a private elementary school in Tokyo, teaching English to students in Grades 1–6. My responsibilities include planning, preparing, and delivering engaging English lessons that develop students’ speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, pronunciation, and communication skills. I work with approximately 400 students across six grade levels and adapt instruction according to students’ ages, English abilities, and learning needs. A major focus of my teaching is helping children develop confidence using English. I create a positive and supportive classroom environment where students are encouraged to communicate, participate, and learn through practice without being afraid of making mistakes. My teaching responsibilities include: • Teaching English to Grades 1–6 • English conversation and communication practice • Phonics and pronunciation instruction • Vocabulary development • Listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities • Lesson planning and preparation • Classroom management • Student assessment and progress evaluation • Creating worksheets and supplemental learning materials • Adapting lessons for different learning levels and needs • Supporting students who require additional English practice In addition to classroom teaching, I serve in an English leadership role. I support the organization and development of the school’s English program and collaborate with other English teachers to maintain consistent teaching standards across grade levels. My leadership and curriculum responsibilities include developing pacing guides, teaching procedures, assessment guidelines, observation materials, teacher resources, substitute-teacher materials, and instructional support documents. I also help coordinate English department schedules, lesson progression, teaching priorities, and communication among teaching staff. Through this position, I have gained extensive practical experience teaching English to Japanese children and a strong understanding of the challenges young Japanese learners may experience when developing English communication skills. I use this experience in my private English lessons to provide structured, encouraging, and age-appropriate instruction tailored to each individual student.
