Warm-up question

前回、前々回と、私が以前習っていた先生が作った

Expression stories 31 を、へたくそ翻訳で（笑）解説しました。

読んでいない方は、できればそちらから見てください。

売っているテキストではないので、形式が自由で勉強になります。

この話が始まる前に、スラッシュリーディングでお話しした前振りや

難しいと思われる単語の説明や

Warm-up questionというのが入ります。

Warm-up question は、まあ、肩慣らしって感じです。

そのEpisode 31の Warm-up question はこれでした。

Warm-up question

If you are reading or listening to this, you most likely have a love of 

learning. Describe what it was, or who it was, that first stimulated this passion in you.

warm-up という割に、読んだ感想。。。みたいな質問に見えますね。(笑)

listening to this と書いてありますが、先生がご自身で読んだ音声も付いているんです。

読んだ感想ではなく「実際にこの "Expression stories" を読んでいるのだから、大体の人は勉強することが大好きでしょう。一番最初にその情熱をもたらしたのは何だったのか、あるいは誰だったのか、説明してください。。。」

ということです。

私のブログを読んでいる皆さんは。。。？どうでしょうね。(笑)

ちなみに、この先生は先生ではあったのですが、教えてもらうというよりも

ただ、日々の出来事を英語で話す時間、という感じで、Expression stories に対しても、特にこの書式に沿って教えていただいた、ということではありません。まあ、日本語で言うと「なあなあな関係」(笑)

難しい単語も初めに箇条書きになっていましたが、そういうのは無視で

まあ、この話を聞いてどう思ったとか、話している間に思いついたことを話したりしていましたので、この Warm-up question に私は答えていないんですよね。(笑)

で、私の答えは。。。

I really love learning English. The first person for me to 

stimulate it was, probably, Mr. Tom Cruise. I've been his big fan since I 

watched "TOP GUN", which was the first edition. I had been thinking 

that Japanese subtitles differed somewhat from the original scripts.

But, I didn't understand English almost at all then. So, firstly, I wanted to understand what he was saying in his movies from his own voices. 

Secondly, I was just falling in love with English itself.

それと、本文を読んだ後の質問もいっぱい付いています。

Comprehension and discussion questions

1. Why do you think children are often cruel to others they see as being different to them?

2. Do you know anyone physically or socially disadvantaged in some 

way who has exceptional personal qualities? Describe them.

3. Do you find it surprising that chess can make such a positive impact on children with no education? Why do you think it’s proving to be so 

effective?

4. If you play chess, describe how it has affected your life.

5. If you don’t play chess, how do you think it could benefit you as an adult?

テキストに出てくるような、内容を確認する質問ではないので、答えがいがあるというものですね。(笑)

長くてなかなかこの話が終わりませんけれども。。。

次回、これらの質問の私なりの答えを書こうと思っています。

こういう質問に、書いて答えるのではなく、口頭で（自分の練習として）

答える。。というのも、英語を話す練習になります。
