MANA English diary 9月29日――my poem book!!

インスタグラムで交流のある方が

歌集を買ってくださいました♡

新人賞も取っていない歌人の、

出版社を通していないから

一般の流通にも乗っていない

私家版歌集、

なのに 

100冊刷ったうちもう3分の1以上が

売れています^^ 

業界の常識に安住せずにやってきて

本当によかった。

A lady who has communicated with me through Instagram bought my poem book :)

I haven't gained any new face awards of Tanka poetry,

and my poem book isn't published through publishing firms, but done privately,

in other words, it's not on the public distribution.

In spite of that, more than a third of 100 printed poem books has already sold!

It was sensible of me not to obey what the other guys in the trade have done,

and to think by myself and act by myself.

今日のポイント◎

・歌集：複数の作者の作品が

　一冊にまとめられた

　勅撰和歌集のような

　歌集の場合は

　"an anthology (of Japanese Waka) "

　などと言えるが、

　ひとりの作者の作品のみで

　構成される歌集については

　対訳がなかったので

　"a poem book"で表現。

・a new face award：新人賞

・a publishing firm：出版社

ほかにもいろいろな表現があります。

・be published privately：

　私家版として出版する

「私家版出版」は"private publishing"。

（自費出版は出版社を通すので、

　印刷のみを印刷会社に依頼する

　私家版出版とは、別の概念）

・in other words,：言い換えると

・on the public distribution：

　一般の流通に乗って、乗せられて

・in spite of：……にもかかわらず

・more than a third：3分の1を超える

3分の2は"two thirds"、

4分の1は"a/one forth/quarter"。

・has already sold：すでに売れた

"sell"は他動詞だと「売る」、

自動詞だと「売れる」。

・It was sensible of me not to：

　私が……しなかったことは

　懸命だった、賢かった

"It's （人の性質を表す形容詞） of （人） to （動詞の原形）"

で「誰々が何々するのは何々だ」。

"It' so kind of you to say so! "

なんてよく遣う言い回しです^^

・obey：……に従う

・in the trade：業界の
