国際的な共通語としての英語

英語は国際的な共通語として広く使われているため、コミュニケーション手段として異なる文化間で情報を共有し、理解を深める重要な役割を果たしています。

English is widely used as a universal international language and serves 

to share information and deepen understanding of different cultures.

多言語圏においても、英語は国際的なビジネス、学術、政治、エンターテイメントなどの分野で主要なコミュニケーション手段となっています。

In multilingual countries, English has the primary role of 

communication in international business, academia, politics, 

and entertainment.

英語により地域や国境を超えて、多くの人々に知識や情報を提供することができますし、自分も受け取ることができます。

By communicating information through the English language, we can 

provide knowledge and information that is accessible to a wide range of people across regions and borders. We can also receive that 

information. 

プロフェッショナルとしての英語翻訳・通訳と課題

英語の翻訳・通訳家はプロとして、英語を使用したコミュニケーションに責任があります。ビジネスや政治に関わるシーンであればなおさらです。

We professional English translators and interpreters have responsibility, especially when it comes to business, politics, and so on.

異なる言語には、文化的なニュアンスや表現が含まれていることがあり、これらを適切に理解することで、受け手の文化背景にもマッチさせた翻訳が可能となります。

Different languages contain cultural nuances and expressions.

English translators can achieve more precise translations by taking into account not only the words of the language but also the cultural 

background and values behind them.

ある表現をただ英語に直訳しても、その文化をよく理解していない場合には、適切に翻訳されないことがあるということです。

For example, an expression may be translated directly into English, but may not be appropriate for that culture.

文化的な違いを考えずに翻訳すると、誤解や不適切なメッセージになってしまう可能性があります。

Translation without a proper understanding of cultural differences can 

lead to misunderstandings and inappropriate messages.

自動翻訳技術の進歩により、翻訳の効率性は向上していますが、文化的なニュアンスを正確に捉える難しさは依然として残っています。

While improvements in translation technology have made translation 

more efficient, the difficulty of capturing cultural nuances accurately still remains.

文化間の適切なコミュニケーションの実現には英語翻訳・通訳者の洞察力と配慮が不可欠であることを理解することが大切なのです。

It is important to understand that the ability of the translator to achieve appropriate communication requires a proper understanding of the 

cultural backgrounds and values of both languages.

とは言え、世界に存在する多用な文化や価値観、生活習慣や宗教、思想などを一人の人間が把握しきれるわけではなく、英語翻訳や通訳においてもそれらを完全に理解し、対応できるわけではありません。

However, no single person can fully grasp all of the cultures, values, lifestyles, religions, and ideologies that exist in the world. Therefore, no 

single English translator or interpreter can fully understand and respond to all of them.

プロフェッショナルとして活動する際に重要なのは、自分の住んでいる世界で信じられていることや考えられていることがすべてではないし、正しいわけではないということを認識することだと考えます。

I believe that the key to being a successful translator or interpreter is to recognize that there are other cultural values, lifestyles, ideologies, and so on that are different from ours.

これは一般の方やプロの翻訳・通訳者など、世界中の人々に言えることですが、地域や国境を超えてコミュニケーションしようとするときには、多様な背景や価値観を持ったお互いを尊重し、理解しようとする姿勢がとても重要なのです。

When we try to communicate across regions and borders, it is very 

important for people from all over the world, including the general 

public and professional translators and interpreters, to respect and 

try to understand each other with diverse backgrounds and values.
