We often put on makeup and fix ourselves up when we're going out in public, but what if we were on a deserted island? Would we bother with makeup? Maybe we wouldn't even bother with clothes.
Our drive, enthusiasm, determination, perseverance: the very force behind these is the desire for fame, though we might not even realize it.
Even the venerable Master Shinran was no exception. He confessed that he too was "troubled by a great mountain of desire for fame and wealth."
Here Master Shinran spoke with remorse and anguish over how tormented he was by his own lust and desire for fame and wealth—yet simultaneously, he rejoiced that he had found true happiness.
