The Nemuro City Council for the Promotion of Home Medical and Nursing Care Cooperation, which is working to promote understanding of dementia using virtual reality (VR) technology, will hold its first VR dementia experience session for the general public at the General Culture Hall on November 18.
According to the secretariat, the number of dementia patients in the city is increasing year by year with the rising rate of the aging population, and they hope that people will participate in this event so that they can properly face dementia patients," said the secretariat.
With the onset of the super-aging society, the number of dementia patients is on the rise every year.
As of the end of September, just under 2,000 people in Nemuro City have received nursing care certification, and the number of people suffering from dementia is thought to be increasing.
The city is working on measures to combat dementia using VR technology with the aim of correctly understanding the increasing number of people with dementia and improving care techniques.
For the past two years, training sessions have been held for care workers, care managers and other professionals.
This year, for the first time, they will hold hands-on sessions for the general public who are caring for dementia patients at home.
