On October 6, the PASMO Council, a member of private railway and bus companies in the Kanto area, began offering PASMO services with Apple Pay.
The service is available for iPhone 8 or later, and models with iOS 14 installed.
The Apple Watch is compatible with the Series 3 or later and requires watchOS 7 to be installed.
To coincide with the launch of the service, the PASMO Council held an event.
They talked about their expectations for Apple Pay and their enthusiasm for it.
Supporting mobile, including Apple Pay, "has many advantages, such as eliminating the need to recharge at ticket machines and other locations," he said.
If you install the PASMO app, you can also purchase a subscription.
He added: "In the spring, when demand for new lifestyles is high, and in the fall, when the switchover takes place, people used to queue up at train stations and bus offices, but from now on, people will be able to purchase commuter passes anywhere they want.
Referring to the introduction of card-type PASMO in 2007 and the expansion of transportation IC cards, he said, "By allowing PASMO to be used with Apple Pay, more and more people will be able to safely and easily hold their iPhones and Apple Watches over their iPhones and start using trains and buses not only in the Tokyo metropolitan area but all over the country, in the same way.
He expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "We'll do our best to get to 10 million users as soon as possible.
